As St.Laurence’s members of St.Laurence’s Church we affirm our membership of the worldwide (‘beyond the parish boundary’) Christian Church through our Mission Partnerships.
Our partnerships are fostered through:
Prayer: one of our partners is included in our weekly intercessions
Giving: a tenth of the uncommitted giving at St.Laurence’s each year is distributed among our various Mission Partners practical action, where possible
Learning, especially through visits from our Partners to the parish
Prison Fellowship, especially in supporting the Chaplaincy at Shrewsbury prison. Find out more about the Prison Fellowship here.
Church Pastoral Aid Society - Growing leaders, growing churches. Find out more here.
Church Army – Valley of Hope. A link to their website can be found here.
UPA – Although we have not been able to establish a partnership with a Church in an Urban Priority Area (UPA), we try to include a letter from a Church or project in a UPA in Church Matters once each quarter, including this ‘Companion’ in our weekly intercessions.
Bible Society – supporting the work of the Stretton Bible Society Action Group. Find out more about the Bible Society here.
Kigezi Water and Sanitation Project, Uganda - We support this Tearfund project in our Parish. Find out more about the work of Tearfund here.
Anne Lapage – a Church Mission Society (CMS) mission partner teaching evangelists and children in Kilolo, Tanzania. Her blog can be found here.
Shepherd of the Hills Children’s Foundation, The Philippines, with whom we are linked through CORD (Christian Outreach, Relief and Development), a society which grew from a project set up by a former rector of Church Stretton. The foundation is currently managed by Nathaniel Mejica (the son of the founder) and his wife Ruth. Find out more here.
We also include in our intercessions two former long-standing Mission Partners.
Support for our Mission Partners is fostered by the World Mission Group, whose membership includes Church members who have undertaken to be responsible for keeping in touch with a specific Partner and others who wish to encourage this aspect of our Church’s life.
The current leader of this group is Adele Grounds (agrounds677@btinternet.com)
