“A local Ecumenical Partnership with the United Reformed Church”

At St.Michael’s Church we try to be a place where Christians of any denomination, or none, can find their place and feel at home.

Because it is a Local Ecumenical Partnership between the Church of England and the United Reformed Church  we aim for the  best of both Anglican and Non-Conformist worship and practice  to find a place in our common life.

We believe that the God who made the world sent his only Son because of his love for us,  “So that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

We meet to find all God has for us, to praise him, and to gather from him and from each other strength, direction  and companionship for our lives.

We are a daughter church of  St.Laurence’s Church Stretton, and a sister church to Church Stretton United Reformed Church: we share our Ministry Team with both churches.

All Stretton itself is an Ancient settlement of about 180 houses, with a further 40 in the scattered hamlets and isolated farms to the North end of the Parish. The village has always had a strong sense of community and cohesion, much of which centres on the Village Hall and in whose life St. Michael’s people join with enthusiasm.

- The Local Community -

We aim to be “the church for the village”, welcoming all regardless of their denominational roots. When the URC chapel (built in 1907) was closed in the early ‘80s for structural reasons, the chapel congregation moved to the church. At first they used the vestry, but with increasing co-operation, a Local Ecumenical Partnership was established in 1994. Fourteen years on we are “one seamless congregation”.

St.Michael’s have had a partnership with St.Michael’s Church Mokhotlong, Lesotho, reaching back to 1962. Visits have been made both ways. We also support the Hospital at Maseru, and the Sisters of the Community of the Holy Name, working among families in Lesotho affected by AIDS.

Midweek meetings:

The Church Fellowship meets at 2.30pm on the first Tuesday of the month in the Church vestry. A homegroup meets at Watling House, All Stretton, at 7.30pm on the first and third Mondays of the month.

There is a Sunday School on the first Sunday of every month at 10.30am. Children are always welcome at our services on other Sundays.
