School’s Ministry

Members of St. Laurence Church go into St Lawrence C of E Primary School on a regular basis to take the Assemblies for both the infants and the juniors, and other members run an after-school club for the juniors.

Open the Book

On Fridays, members of the clergy and congregation are invited into the school to take Assemblies for both the Infants and Junior school children. Three years ago we started a new programme of Assemblies entitled ‘Open the Book’ which took the children through the entire Bible.

Having completed the ‘entire bible’ in three years we are now beginining again, but this time we are presenting the bible stories in chronological order!

“3-16″ is an after-school club held in St. Lawrence Primary School on Wednesdays from 3.16pm until 4.15pm. Jam

Jam is an afterschool club for Key Stage 1 children from year 1 upwards which meets on Wednesdays from 3:15pm to 4:15pm and is run by Sarah Robinson, Ro Wolgar and Debbie West. At present it has a waiting list and 17 children attending. We have games, sing songs, pray together, watch dvd’s, eat jammie dodgers (or other jammy things) and included in what Jam may stand for is Jesus and Me – we look at stories in the Bible and learn that Jesus taught a lot of people a lot of things and says He is with us today by his spirit. ‘Let your light shine and let Jesus shine through you’ is the line of one of our songs and we hope Jam shines with Jesus’ sense of fun and enjoyment of people and food.

Pumpkin Party

This is held on 31st October or thereabouts. We have run this for the last two years – lots of pumpkins lit with cut out hearts and crosses to show the love and sacrifice of God for us.

Christingle

An annual service to tie in with the lighting of the Christmas lights in the town. A Children’s Society event which raises awareness of their work and supports all they do.

St. Laurence’s church also welcomes the Primary School to the church for their school services at Christmas, Easter and end of school year, at which the departing pupils are presented with Bibles.
